Balneario de S'Iletes

On our last day, we decided to go to the beach. Al tough being close to the sea means being cold by wind, the day was nice enough and sunny to enjoy. The beaches in Palma around found on the East of the Bay, as oppose to the Ports on the West. This particular strip of beach is popular with the tourists [specially Germans]. S'Iletes and S'Arenals are the German Riviera of, Germans. As they consider Mallorca an extension of their country, it would make sense that they would come here to vacation [in fact, besides Spanish and Catalan, German is considered second/third language in Mallorca]. Anyways, this balneario, Balneario 6 is the most famous and popular among Germans. It is a Spring Break Beach of sorts for them. The drinks are big and view is nice to enjoy. Must be nicer in summer. Can't wait to come back and join the locals, or tourists, depends on your point of view...

The Bay of Soller

The bay city is actually bigger than Soller, at least that's how it felt to me. Maybe beacause of the openness of the town. The bay leads into the northen sea of Mallorca [the Mediterranian Sea].

The City of Soller

Soller is a small town north in the island of Mallorca. It is an hour away from Palma by train, which travels from fields to mountains. The city is close to the northen sea and the Port of Soller. As November is a low season month there wasn't many tourists, or locals by that matter. This day was perhaps the only cloudy day on my whole trip, but it wasn't too cold. This fountain is close to the main Square where the church is located.

La Alhambra en el Pueblo Español

El Pueblo Español is a collection of buildings from different architecture styles from all over Spain In a way is a museum that celebrates the diversity of Spain's architecture. In this particular picture I am standing in a replica of La Alhambra.

Porto Pi Bay

This part of the island is located south of Palma Bay. This site is popular for shopping as it has a big mall. It features many ground levels with stores and supermarkets. This particular pictures is taken from the second floor, outside a restaurant. One of the largest ports is located here as well.

Castle Bellver

Peek at the top from the trail.

The forest grotto

This building is half-way on the hike up the mountain/forest trail. It is a nice place to rest up as there are many steps on the way up. There is a look-out as well to admire the view. A few more hundred stairs to the top...

Gate to the forest mountain

This is the gate to the mountain. Actually the area around the mountain is forest. It resides tropical plants as well as plants found in forests.

Trail to the stop of the forest mountain. Castle Bellver is at the top.

This is scale representation of the forest mountain. It covers a great area of the city.

In closer inspection...

What I meant when I said to "climb up to the cathedral' was literal. The cathedral is a top of fortress, basically. There are a few walls [like the one shown in the picture] to climb up before getting to the top. And many sets of stairs a imagined. I was going to climb up on my second day, but I got tired from walking the city all day. Next time I'll spend more time in the park.

The Cathedral in the bay

The cathedral is found in the Parc de La Mar. This site is the promenade running along the highway by the bay. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to climb my way up to the cathedral. Next time I will.

Sun dial

I found this piece of architecture quite fascinating. I'm sure it works and is accurate as well. As Palma is located in the bay, the community is quite maritime. Sun dials and calendars such as these are convenient to have. It also makes a nice piece of art.

A peek into the bay

View from the Park de la Quarentena. My hotel was located behind the park. I loved it as it is a nice tropical park. A nice place to relax during the day, but quite dark at night as the lamps don't illuminate all the areas of the park. This is the fastest way to go from the hotel into el Paseo Maritimo though.

Welcome to Palma

So my yearly trip to Europe took me to Palma this time
[actually this is my second time in Europe this year]. I was there for thanksgiving week, and it was quite a nice trip. The weather was sunny all week round, in the 60's. Sören meet me later on in the week. I was quite proud of myself actually, as this was kind of my first trip being by myself [well, only for 3 days, but I got a lot done in 3 days, and I had fun]. Being in good company is always good though, so I did enjoy having him along. It was only windy in the beach in the south, but I didn't expect much in this season. All in all it was fun. I'd like to go back during the summer, with more heat, and more [German] tourists around.

2 cds and a Ped Egg

So today I bougth the new John Mayer cd 'Battle Sudies.' I haven't listen it yet, but I'm sure is great, as I'm currently listening to Norah Jones. I wasn't planning in getting it, I didn't even know she had an album out. The cover art really took my attention then I realized 'is Norah Jones!' I love this album. Again the melodies are mellow but the have a pop sound to them. I really enjoy it. I'm glad I noticed it at the store. I also bougth a Ped Egg for spa day. Can't wait.

Rainy day in the Square

Even a rainy day won't chase away this ambulant vegetable market. Although popular in Peru as a way of life ane business, the trend has caugth on here in NY where farmers will sell their crops at moderate prices.

Modern volcano

This building feature can be found in one of the most popular squares in NY. I bet this is a steam pipe from NY's underground steam system, which produces power to the city.

Library blowfish

The South Huntington Library displays various metal sculptures throughout the year. One of this sculptures is this blowfish. It seems to be made of copper or rusted metal. Quite outstanding.

Longer hair

I can make a pony tail again :-)

Sasuke costume

I have to say that for a last minute costume [Sasuke Uchiha from the Naruto series] this one turned out pretty good. And by last minute I mean I started getting ready at 8PM on Halloween Night. I gel and sprayed my hair, so of course my hair was spiked up all night. It took me 2 hours to put it all together, so I was delayed to the party at Pieces (bar), but I arrived just as the bar started to get fun. At least Tom recognized my costume.
