Nintendo 3DS [unboxing + set up]

I received my 3DS today from Amazon.com. I was glad that I did not have to wait til Tuesday like Amazon had estimated at first. Here are 2 videos that I made to begin the review for this new handheld. Enjoy.

Sorry about the quality, my camera usually does a good job with video, but the lighting conditions were not great in my room. At least you can see the overall functions.

I can not wait to show you more!

Iran Protest at Union Sq.

Sunday afternoon [03.13.11]

Grown up Wooter

My wooter evolve to its 3rd stage of development, this happens at lv.36.
For some reason Wooter [a water pokemon] can learn Mega Horn [grass attack]. It's a decent move at 120ATK but 85% accuracy. Asides from that move Wotter learned Aqua Jet, Aqua Ring, and Shell Cut.
I love my Wooter, he'll be with me at the finals.

3DS preview [part 1]

So finally I got a chance to try out the 3DS. My first impression on the actual 3D is very optimistic. The games and the system itself give you an amazing field of depth. So the games are not "popping out" at you, rather the background is very far from you creating the depth.

I got a chance to play Mii Quest, build a Mii on Mii Maker, I played around with the notes function, a took 3D pics, and played Lego Star Wars.

I was very impressed with the 3D pics. I was looking at the pics other people took and you can really differentiate the foreground from the background. The resolution is minimal (I believe a 2.0 mega pixel camera if am not mistaken), but the effect makes up for it.

The 3D in the games works well too. When I was playing Mii Quest I had to turn down the 3D half way, having it all the way up for this game was not working to my advantage. Which makes the 3d depth slider a key feature for the 3DS. Some people may say "why have a function to decrease or turn off the 3D?" The "strength" of the 3D all the way up can be a bit disorienting and can be a bit bothersome to your eyesight. But as stated before this varies from game to game. I had the 3D all the way up for Lego Stars Wars and I had no problem with it, instead the game became very inmersive.

In terms of the design, the 3DS seems to be well built. It is slim and small. My hands could grasp it well, but I wish I had more room to grab the system well. The screen though is of optimal size and so is the touch screen. The buttons felt good. The shoulder buttons are clicky, which is great. The buttons below the touch screen were responsive, and I'm glad that you need to apply a bit of pressure to them since they are located so near the touch screen. The Slide pad was interesting. I did not feel like an analog stick, rather like a slide on a fixed track (like the swift gear in a car). I like the telescopic stylus that is located at the back of the system. It extends to the proper size to hold in your fingers. Right now I am using an original stylus on the original DS, and the telescopic stylus is almost twice as long which is great for game play.

My only concern hardware wise was the volume. I had the volume turn all the way up and I could not hear well the sounds/music. Perhaps it was because I was inside the demo pod with other people making noise. I hope to hear the sounds better when I play in a more quite setting.

So, this was my first impression. I will go back next week to play with it some more, try more games, hopefully capture some video of the system and its features.

The Pokemon Global Link is coming March 30th!

The pokemon global link is a worldwide new connective feature that allows trainers from all over the globe to be connected to the wolrd of pokemon. Once the site opens on the US at the end of this month (March 30th) you will have access to the Dream World and the PBU (pokemon battle union). Both of these feature will enhance the game play of both Pokemon Black/Pokemon White in new levels. All you need is a copy of Pokemon Black/ Pokemon White, and a pokemon account.

For more details please visit the official site: http://www.pokemon-gl.com/

Try the Nintendo 3DS Demo Pods!

Finally! A chance to experience the Nintendo 3DS in person. From March 11-30th you can stop by Grand Central Station (Vanderbilt hall) and test these amazing 3D (without special glasses) gaming devices for free.
You can also check these out in different major cities around the country.

I'll try to sneak some video if I can, and I will post a small review hopefully this Saturday. Can't wait!

the 26th Annual AIDS Walk NY

Hello readers!

Hope this blog post finds you well. It is my pleasure to inform you that the AIDS Walk 2011 has been announced; this year it will take place on Sunday May 15, 2011. Our team page, Ab Fab 4 a Cure, is open for this season. I would like to reach out to you to help us be succesful in our endevours. Over the past 3 years we have raised more than $2,500 for the cause. And this year we would like to continue adding to our efforts, and for this to happen we need your help.
How can I help you may ask?

Well, there are many ways to help:

1)Register with the team- There is strength in numbers: the more people we can recruit, the more money we can raise for the cause. Think of the following: If a team of 5 people could raise $100 each, that would be great. But if we had a team of 10 raising the same amount, the amount would double.

Remember that all funds raised go towards programs and services for people who have HIV/AIDS. The more money we can raise, the more they can benefit from our efforts.

Register by clicking on the following page: Join our team.

2)Make a donation to our team page, or to our team members- If you are not able to attend, you may still be a part of the team by making an online donation. By clicking on the following link you can make a small donation now: Ab Fab 4 a Cure donation page.

Or, to make a donation to any team member just click on the following link: Team members. Once there just select which team member you would like to donate to.

As an extra incentive: remember that all donations are tax-deductable. You will get a receipt once the donation is completed.

3)Spread the word- If you can't join the team, or can't donate at this moment you can spread the word. Forward this email to anyone who may be interested, talk about it with your friends next time you see them, post it on Facebook for everyone to know. Just let your friends know of what our team is trying to accomplish.

4)Send us words of encouragement, stories you would like to share if you have participated in a past walk, share with us stories of the people that inspire you, or names of people you would like to honor.
All these options help the team. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime through the comments section.
Thank you for your time. I hope that you are able to help in any way you can. On behalf of the team, I thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Jorgie
Team Captain
