2012: The end! or is it?

Thank you Charlie McDonnell.

Finally someone who agrees with my theory: The Mayans just stopped making calendars.
They did it for hundreds of years (I think), and to think they would have made calendars forever is ridiculous. Eventually they had to stop, either because the got tired, the arts of calendar making were lost, or because they were conquered by the Spanish and their native culture was erased. Maybe.

But yes, no end of the world.

Mmmm survival kits. Now there is a great idea...

The Microsoft store

Uuuuuh a Microsoft store is popping up at the Walt Whitman Mall [Huntington Station, NY]. I can't wait to see it in person. Ever since the announcement of Windows 8 I'm curious about what Microsoft has to offer. I did see a few consumer reviews for the new OS, but I'd like to try it myself. And I hope I get to try the "Surface" tablet and IE10 when the store opens!

Drinks

So, I'm a bit full on drinks. The wine that I had with lunch was great ( a rosé). I attemped to meet with my friends after but had no luck, as they had other plans. I decided to go home instead, after an afternoon of shopping, but I just had to stop in at a bar for another drink in Chelsea :-)
I'm currently having a $3 Bud Light draft at Gym Bar. The crowd is ok (a bit older for my taste), and the music is not bad. It would be better with Luis around but alas he's not. After this I'll go home and build my new model kit.
Tomorrow is father's day so we'll celebrate it at my aunt's house with the family.

Fire Island, the first trip

Last weekend I took a weekend get away to Fire Island for the first time this summer, to scape the stress of work and life. It may sound dramatic but work has been intense as the the fiscal year is closing, and as the bookkeeper I need to account for all financials.
Ricky had invited to come with as he needed a break too. We book a hotel at The Grove Hotel as it was the cheapest choice 3 days before our trip. It was very convenient as the Ice Palace is right in the premises, so we could drink and go to sleep right after, lol. Saturday [June 9th] was suppose to rain, but gladly the sky was only cloudy in the late afternoon. Sunday was gorgeous however, we hanged out by the pool after breakfast and took some sun. I swam in the pool for while which was quite refreshing. We left just in time, as as we got back to the mainland the clouds were gathering.
I can wait to go back for the weekend, maybe stay 2 days. I think it's fund to stay over with friends. Maybe next time we'll get a place for 4.

Queens Pride

This year Queens celebrated 20 years of gay pride [June 3rd, 2012]. After all this time, and after all we have gone through I am so glad that we have time to celebrate the history we started in NY, Queens. This was my first time attending the Queens pride, so I did not know what to expect, as my only reference is the NYC pride parade and celebration.

The parade was great, and it was well executed. It started at 88th street (I believe) on 37th avenue, to 74th street. The Only thing that was a bit of a downer was that the parade was too short, as there were not many floats. The parade must have lasted for about an hour and a half. Since the gay community is mostly center on Jackson Heights I can understand the size of the parade. But of course, people form all over NY come to enjoy in the festivities.

The celebration continued with the stage show at 37th Road. Performers entertained us with music and dance for a couple of hours. It did rained for a about half an hour but after it the sun came out and we kept in enjoying the afternoon. After the rain, a rainbow appeared to celebrate the day with us.

Once the stage show was over, it was time to hit the bars. For some reason this year the bars were very crowded, to the point the cops had to close entrance to most of the bars along Roosevelt Avenue. The people were not to happy about this, but I'm sure everyone found a place to enjoy themselves.

Regardless of the rain and the cops bar-blocking (hehe) the fun, the day was great and it was so much fun! I will definitely attend next year with my friends.

Fleet Week in NYC

It is time for fleet week, the one week of the year (May 23-19, 2012) where ships from all over the world come to dock in NY. This year I went with my friend Luis to visit the tall ships along pier 86. One of the ships happened to be an Ecuadorian ship "Guayas", so Luis was happy. Unfortunely we did not get a chance to see the Colombian ship "Gloria" as it had leave on Saturday.

I have to say that the weather was great, very warm and breezy. At first I didn't want to go but Luis convinced me to go. I'm glad he did. Next time we'll have to go inside the Actual Intrepid Museum and watch the Parade of Sails for more fun.

Lover Never Dies

This love tale by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber tells the continuing story of The Phantom of the Opera. Occurring 10 years after the events of Phantom, this story takes place in Coney Island, NY. Christine and her family are called to NY to sing in a new opera. In their visit, they are invited to Phantasma, Coney Island's circus show run by Mr. Y (The Phantom).
This story unravels the relationship between Christine and the Phanton.

The Musical opened in London to mixed reviews. A revised version opened in Australia to more favorable reviews.

The only chance to see it outside those countries is through DVD, BlueRay, or digital download of the Australian Cast. This version, although amazingly staged and choreograph, it lacks emotion in the musical in performance.

If you want to listen to the songs, please do yourself a favor and listen to the original London cast recording performed by Ramin Karimloo (the Phantom) and Sierra Boggess (Christine). They also performed marvelously in the filming of The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall.

Look out for the following songs:
-Til I hear you sing - The Phantom
-The Coney Island Waltz [Australian version]
-Beneath a Moonless Sky - Christine and the Phantom
-Once Upon Another Time - Christine and the Phantom
-The Beauty Underneath - The Phantom and Gustave
-Love Never Dies - Christine

The Phantom is back

For a limited release in movie theathers, this week. Brought to theathers by Phatom Events.

"The Phantom of the Opera" on May 21st. And

"Love Never Dies" the long awaited Sequel to the historic long run show by Andrew Lloyd Weber. In theaters only May 23rd.

The Phantom was the first stage show I experienced, over 10 years ago in London's West End. The story and thr songs are timeless, "Masquerade" being my favorite. Image an ensemble singing and dancing to this carnival themed song.

Only 7 minutes to relive it all again through a new medium. Can't wait :-D

Flaming Saddles

Yesterday was the first time I went to Flaming Saddles. The bar is themed as a country/cowboy bar. Of course the only cowboys we encountered were the bartenders, one of which was extremely hot! We just got in when the bartenders got on the bar and started dancing a few country songs. The place was packed with lots of very good looking people.
I'd definitly go back again.

This song is going to be a hit at the Circuit Festival in Barcelona this year.
I'm going to call it: This song is going to be played at the Water Park Day/Night! If they don't I will be a little disappointed.
I just imagine everyone dancing in the wave pool splashing everyone and everywhere. This songs just seems fit for this. Fist pump!

Warning Xperia user! WARNING!

"Updated – comment from the Developer World team:
We we would like to clarify that above mentioned “challenges” have already been addressed by our SW engineering teams. For instance, we have not only optimised the RAM management by making the RAM usage for internal apps as good as possible, but we will also introduce a Performance assistant at start up when running ICS. In this Performance assistant, you can enable and disable certain services that you might not want to run on your phone, in order to optimise the performance of your phone.
We have also worked with quite a few partners in regards to architecture optimisations for SQL handling. In addition, we have also optimised the hardware usage. And as a result of this article, a number of app developers have notified us that they are evaluating if HW optimisation will be needed or not for their apps.
The aim of this article was to share our knowledge regarding the different characteristics for ICS and Gingerbread in an open way, as we strive to have an open communication with the developer community. All in all, we would like to point out that it’s our clear aim to deliver an as good ICS update as ever possible. As you might have seen on the Sony Xperia Product Blog, we’re not far from releasing it now. Thanks for all the feedback!"
Source: "Learn about the technical differences between Gingerbread and ICS [Updated]": http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/2012/03/30/learn-about-the-technical-differences-between-gingerbread-and-ics/

But the real deal is coming from the (disatisfied) users themselves. I have read most a lot of these posts and ICS is not getting favorable review is any.
For more info please read this Xperia blog thread for ICS: "Your thoughts on ICS update": http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/182372#182372

Some of the major issues expressed by many are as follows:

-Home Launcher is buggy [Lags when scrolling between screens]
-GSM and 3G connection problems.
-HD Games experiences Graphics Glitches
-Video Camera recording quality decreased. HD has a framerate problem, and no stereo sound.
-Phone Dialer needs takes 3-4 seconds to appear [Even After a fresh Reboot]
-Battery Drain
-Wifi connection problems. High drop rate.

So is ICS worth it? I think it is obvious that a new update is needed to fix these problems. Til then I will stay off the ICS. I am very happy with the way my phone is currently working, and I don't mind waiting for a new fixed version.

Omg ICS has come to my Xperia Ray! [update2]

Yeah! Gonna give ICS a try, probably review it.

[update 1] So, we have come to a few problems here. Although the software update is available for my phone, it can not be downloaded yet, I get the message "there is no software available. Please try again later."... Many Xperia users are experiencing this problem.

Follow this thread in the Xperia blogs: http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/182242#182242

apparently since everyone is downloading this update, the serves have become congested and I am asked to "try again" later.

I will try again later tonight to see if I have any luck. Btw, as many have speculated this update in non-reversable! so If you don't like it you are stuck with it. This is causing some concerns as there have been ealier reports by Sony of performance issues after updating ICS. More to come in the next post.

[update 2] I wil not upgrade my phone until a new fixed has come to ICS. After reading countless reports of bugs on the new update, I don't think it will be worth it until a comprehensive fix comes to ICS.
